Are You Visible?

Do you take the time to be visible? Do you want to be visible? Do you dare to show your personality? Do you want to be an efficient leader? Are you matching your organisation? Do you dare to be yourself? Are you busy making budgets in a meeting room? ….or are you present in your company´s life?

Being a leader is a busy job. At all moments, you are stretched on time. Some actions should be prioritised.

Presence Cannot Be Delegated

As soon as you enter a role as a leader, your presence is required in what can be felt as “all over the place”. Too often, we are dragged into meetings, we let the surroundings set the agenda, we move on in all directions. The most important lesson is therefore to prioritise your actions.

The best way to be an efficient leader is to make sure your team continuously produces good work and sustainable results. The company’s and your colleagues’ life goes on while you are busy in meetings. Are you aware of the direction of your team? Have you had a touchdown lately?

Your presence cannot be delegated – analysing the budget can. You need to be present to understand the processes, to motivate, to support and to guide your team. Presence is key to produce results through others. You need to be visible in the organisation.

Find Your Place Amongst Your People

Everyday life drags you back to your screen – emails consume empty space in the calendar. You have to be conscious.

A good way to ensure you get visible is to take place amongst your team. I have always found that having an office close to the coffee machine gives me an excellent opportunity to grab any occasion to be present and to get a touchdown with the team.

Check the pulse of your organisation. Sit down – take a coffee. Participate in other tasks than your own. Keep focus on managing by walking around. Be present in people´s life. Don’t forget your remote locations. Take the time for a field trip, host phone meetings, video conferences – be present in the life of your organisation.

Visibility is the best way to transfer your values and vision. Dare to be personal. Dare to be your best you. The more you let your personality shine through, the bigger impact you will have as a leader.

Be personal. Dare to show that you’re not perfect. Dare to open your space and include other people into your universe. People will feel important in your presence and in return, you will get trust. You will leave a fingerprint of your vision and values.

…and remember, to be visible in your organisation, you need to put your own mask on first and be present in your own life.
