Are you enjoying some lazy days on the beach? Are you climbing the highest mountains? Are you taking some slow days off at home? Do you let your team enjoy their vacation? Is it so busy at work that you don’t take some days off? Are you aware of the benefits of vacation?
The path of the company continue to go on…. and all employees should stop their machine and take a rest on the side every now and then. Actually, it should be made mandatory in all company cultures to take vacation, as there are many benefits of letting people having time off.
Nature’s need for rest
Nature takes time off – animal’s time awake is often shorter than the time spent sleeping. Trees and flowers rest during winter. Summer and heat transforms into winter and cold. Nature naturally balances out all the elements. Activity and yang is balanced with slow motion and yin.
– Human beings are a part of nature and needs to be balanced out.
We are working in a technology environment where everything goes faster and faster. We are online all the time and the separation between work and time off is fading away.
Working in stressful environments burns out a human being if the body and soul aren’t balanced out.
Nature does it naturally… human brains and human conscious seem to go against nature when we act like our body is made for full activity at all times.
Renewed Energy – a personal responsibility
One of the greatest benefits with resting is that we see things with new eyes when we get back to work. Issues that we did not manage to solve before going on vacation might be far easier to solve when we get back.
Remaining productive at work is a personal responsibility. To keep the pace throughout the year, we need to listen to our body and rest when we are too tired – either it is physically or mentally. To perform at work, our body and soul needs to be in harmony.
To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear – Buddha
Most importantly, when our body and soul are rested our serotonin increases hence our positivity is boosted. Good mood increases the team spirit, which again increases productivity. Time spent on negativity in the organisation can be extremely costly – it requires unnecessary use of employee and management time.
When you start out in a team, you have to get the teamwork going and then you get something back – Michael Schumacher
In the same way, the whole body is a teamwork that improves when the body and brain are rested. We balance out our system and in return we get something back. We work quicker, our productivity increases, we get healthier and we boost creativity. All good stuff for cost reduction, decrease in sick leave and boosting business!
Manager – take time off
The physical and psychological benefits of taking time off are as important for you as a manager as for the rest of your team. I would even be tempted to say it is even more productive for the organisation that you to take vacation!
You should keep the positivity in the team throughout the year – and to do so, you have to have to ensure to be positive yourself. Vacation is an excellent way to charge your batteries and boost your positivity.
The more in harmony with yourself you are, the more joyful you are and the more faithful you are. Faith is not to disconnect you from reality – it connects you to reality – Paulo Coelho
And, if these reasons aren’t good enough – well – at least take some vacation and don’t read your mails every day while you’re off in respect of your team – as they occasionally do need some vacation from you
…and for those of you that for a special reason have to postpone your vacation:
Laughter is an instant vacation – Milton Berle
Have a nice vacation and good luck in giving time off to boost your organisation!
